The Importance of a Career Coach

In my opinion, we have to do more in the Middle East in terms of career coaching among those who are looking for a job. And it is our duty, as professional HR people, to educate people and to make them understand the importance of a coach/mentor in their career path.

When you’re looking for a job, you’ll begin to realize that sending hundreds of emails and application for jobs for which you have no skills, will not help you. It will do nothing but waste your precious time (both yours, and the recruiter’s). And everyone always asks the same question: Why is nobody calling me even though I have submitted thousands of applications?

In Europe, the need for a Coach or Mentor, especially when you’re looking for jobs, is getting bigger. The coaching industry has exploded. There is nothing new in being a coach. If you have a coach, you know you’ll reach your destination.

Eddie Robinson said: “Coaching is a profession of love. You can’t coach people unless you love them.” Absolutely true, as you can’t give and help people move forward, unless you love the people.

The Coach does not necessarily have to be an expert in any field, but he must have the ability to create the future based on his clients experience and wisdom. Whether you are returning to the workforce, looking for a different job or you want to explore a change, a career coach could help you chart your course.

A career coach changes your life, helps you to develop, and will improve your potential. He has an essential role in helping people change for the better, much faster than they could do alone.

Andy Stanley said in The Next Generation Leader: You will never maximize your potential in any area without coaching.  It is impossible.  You may be good.  You may even be better than everyone else.  But without outside input, you will never be as good as you could be… We all do better when someone is watching us… Self-evaluation is helpful, but someone else’s assessment is essential.”

As a professional HR consultant, I receive hundreds of emails daily, and nearly 90% of them are from people asking for “help”. But when I ask them to be more specific and tell me what they understand by “help”, their answers diminish. Or, some of them simply respond with: “Give me a job”.

It is very important to know exactly what we want; if we do not know, how can we expect somebody else to advise us? To obtain what we do not have yet, we have to do what we do not do yet. A career coach will advise you on how to develop your potential and support you through the process.

Once you understand the importance of having a career coach, then you can begin the process of finding the right career coach for you. In martial arts, the coach is the name for the Master. So find YOUR Master for your Career Path.
