Case Study: In Learning

Tell us your name and what you do:

My name is Rohit Bassi and I have a passion to help people outperform themselves. I love to help people succeed in whatever they wish to do so. Many people say that I inspire them to do something bigger and greater than themselves.

Tell us about your background

I was born in the UK and am of Indian heritage. In school I was a rebel and studying was never my forte. My interest has always been in acting and I achieved a GCSE grade A in Drama. When I was 10 years old, I was involved in a near death situation and became known as the miracle kid because I lived to see the day and many after that.

What company do you work for?

I am the founder of In Learning, a learning and development consultancy. We are based in Dubai and carry out projects across the globe including the Middle East, Afghanistan and Philippines. I am currently expanding into Iraq.

What is your specialist skill?

I am known for my unconventional and powerful style in delivering practical workshops or one to one coaching sessions on presenting/public speaking that bring about outstanding results.

More importantly, I make your life fun by giving you the seeds of compassion and passion to unleash your true potential by enhancing your core critical skills of communication, self-leadership and collaboration.

What is the best learning and development strategy you have implemented?

It has to be for two organizations.

One is A-Map, the distributor for automotive batteries, tyres, and lubricants. The other one is BodySmart, leaders in lifestyle management and weight loss.

For A-Map it was about:

  • Learning to streamline the organization.
  • Communicating more effectively.
  • Creation of a positive mind-set.
  • Identification of performers.
  • Working and collaborating as a team.

For BodySmart it was about:

  • Achieving greater structure and discipline for the business.
  • Observing processes to both increase revenue and reduce costs.
  • To help the owner to be focused on the strategic growth of BodySmart.
  • Assist the operational manager in running the show with the team.
  • Team collaboration to achieve BodySmart’s vision and mission.

Can you take us step-by-step through why it was a success?

In both scenarios, it was truly knowing the hidden requirements of my clients. Through a series of discussions and interviews with the owner, management and the workforce, the challenges came out in the foreground thus allowing setting the objectives with great clarity.

From there it was devising the workshops, which would allow people at all levels to fulfill their needs and wants. Then came the delivery of the sessions. The leadership team, management and the complete workforce attended many of the workshops.

Most importantly was the coaching after the session. With all participants having direct access to me, they were able to openly discuss what they had implemented from the training, what worked and what they could do better.

What do you recommend our readers do with this strategy?

Simply implement it. Many organizations ignore the coaching element after training. Coaching fundamentally ensures that all participants will develop their skills to a considerably higher level than training without coaching.
