Expo 2020 Dubai and Dubai Cares are committed to increasing collaboration and closing the education sector’s digital divide with the UAE philanthropic organisation set to announce its ‘Declaration on the Right on Connectivity for Learning and Livelihoods’ at Expo 2020 Dubai’s Knowledge and Learning Week in December 2021.
Anchored in the United Nations Secretary General’s Roadmap for Digital Cooperation, the Declaration will outline a clear call for action, targeted at governments, donor agencies and the private sector, to address key barriers to connectivity – availability, affordability and usability.
It will be announced at RewirEd, Dubai Cares’ high-level international conference that will promote meaningful action-oriented dialogue to rethink and reimagine attitudes towards education and take place during Expo 2020’s Knowledge and Learning Week in December 2021.
News of the Declaration, which seeks to foster a shared understanding of the importance of, and the right to, connectivity for education, comes as Expo 2020 wraps up its pre-Expo Knowledge and Learning Week.
Delivered in collaboration with Dubai Cares, this virtual event on 15-16 December 2020 brought together international participants, members of the Expo family and education experts. It explored, among numerous topics, how connectivity has ensured a continuation of knowledge sharing throughout the pandemic, but also highlighted huge gaps that must be addressed to ensure a resilient education system and opportunities for all.
Expo 2020 will bring together more than 200 participants, including nations, government entities, educational establishments and the private sector, with the shared purpose of solving some of the world’s greatest challenges.
The first World Expo to be held in the Middle East, Africa and South Asia (MEASA) region, it will run from 1 October 2021 until 31 March 2022.
